Samsung Confirms Two Variants of Galaxy S4 Mini

Just as Samsung followed up the Galaxy S3 with a Galaxy S3 mini, the smartphone company is doing the same thing with the Galaxy S4. The rumors about this upcoming mini smartphone had been swirling for a while, but now we’ve received confirmation from Samsung that the S4 mini will come in two different versions.

The Samsung GT-I9195 and the SGH-I257 showed up temporarily on the Samsung Apps site. They were subsequently pulled, as Samsung didn’t really intend on announcing the “surprise” smartphone until their “Premiere 2013″ event in June, but screenshots were taken before the phones disappeared from the site.

Both phones are expected to come in both black and white and both phones will come with a smaller 4.3-inch Super AMOLED display running a 540 x 960 resolution. Power comes by way of a 1.6GHz dual core processor, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and a 2100mAh battery, backed by an 8MP camera and 32GB of storage. The LTE version gets 2GB of RAM, while the 3G model gets just 1GB.

In short, the Galaxy S4 Mini is sounding an awful lot like having an S3 stuffed into a 4.3-inch body styled after the S4. Would something like this interest you?

New Galaxy and ATIV Devices at Samsung Premiere 2013

The “Samsung Premiere 2013″ event is scheduled to take place in London on June 20 and we’re expecting to see at least a few new additions to the GALAXY and ATIV lines from the company. The invite doesn’t say much, but it does showcase the GALAXY and ATIV branding, as well as what appears to be the edge on a tablet or notebook-like device.

Starting with the Galaxy side of things, it is likely that Samsung will show off a few variants to its recent Galaxy S4 smartphone. The S4 mini has been rumored for some time and Samsung could go in the other direction with the S4 Mega as well. We’ve also see leaks on a Galaxy S4 Active with physical menu and back buttons, plus a more ruggedized back. It’s also possible that the event will see a new Galaxy Tab 3 in the 10.1-inch variety.

Switching gears to the ATIV side, Samsung hasn’t had as much success with its Windows-based smartphones and tablets compared to its Android offerings. That being said, given the company’s history, it’s very likely that we’ll find a new ATIV device styled after the Galaxy S4, except the smartphone will be powered by Windows Phone 8. Since the ATIV line also includes all-in-ones and laptops, we could see something there as well.

The Samsung Premiere 2013 event will be livestreamed from the Samsung Mobile YouTube channel on June 20th starting at 1pm ET.

Press shots of white LG Nexus 4 leaked, but will it bring Android 4.3?

Press shots of white LG Nexus 4 leaked, but will it bring Android 4.3?

Some rather official looking shots leaked this weekend

The Google-branded, white LG Nexus 4 smartphone has made another appearance, this time in the form of rather official-looking press shots.

AndroidPolice has obtained the snaps, which it posted over the weekend, showing the device with a black front plate, but a white rear.

The device appeared at Google I/O last week, where it was not officially announced, while rumours have been swirling since January that it may be on the horizon.

Previous reports have suggested that Google may drop the device on June 10, which is the same date Apple has earmarked for its WWDC keynote.

Android 4.3 on board?

With the device now appearing in the flesh and in press shots, the only questions left are the exact specs.

It is hoped that the white Nexus 4, whenever it arrives, will pack v.4.3 of the Android operating system, although a June 10 arrival date would make that possibility a little less likely.

The other piece of major speculation has centred around whether the device will get a 32GB iteration. The black Nexus 4 only came in 8GB and 16GB iterations.

The tipster who leaked the press shots to Android Police will only come with 8GB and 16GB of storage.

Lenovo Planning on Bringing Its Smartphones to the U.S.

Lenovo

Lenovo is known for some very high quality tablets, notebooks and desktop machines. But did you know they also have a line of very capable smartphones? Unfortunately, they currently keep their phone efforts strictly to China and a few of its surrounding neighbors. The good news is this could be changing in the near future.

According to Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuanging, the company hopes to bring its smartphones to the US market within a year. Lenovo sees expanding its smartphone presence a major step forward.

As the PC market continues to decline, the mobile market is an important opportunity for all companies that currently rely primarily on the notebooks/desktop market. But can they break into the mobile market in a big way? Right now Lenovo is already the second-biggest smartphone maker in China, and with ultra-powerful smartphones like the Intel-powered K900, I’d say they have the potential to take their current home-market success and apply it globally.

What do you think, would you like to see Lenovo bring its phones to a market near you? Will the company be able to take on bigger plays like Samsung, Apple, Sony and HTC?
