Bayonetta 2 announced as a Wii U exclusive

Platinum Games’ sequel to its wild hack n slash offering will be a Wii U exclusive.

Earlier today Nintendo planted its flag in the daily news cycle and demanded the attention of gaming fans everywhere by finally announcing the release date and price of the Wii U, as well as several other related reveals. During that announcement, one of the surprises of the show came when the discussion turned to games. For the first time Bayonetta 2 was confirmed, and it will be a Wii U exclusive.

bayonettaThe action-based hack n slash original, featuring a buxom young witch in a skin tight outfit, was a hit when it was released back in 2010 (or 2009 if you got a hold of the Japanese release), both commercially and critically. Some compared it to the Sony exclusive God of War, which was especially ironic as the PS3 version of Bayonetta was deemed far inferior to the Xbox 360 offering due to technical issues.

That is a complete non-issue for the sequel though, as the PS3 and Xbox 360 will be left on the outside looking in. This will actually be the second Wii U exclusive title for developer Platinum Games. The developer has been working on a Wii U launch title known as Project P-100, which at the Nintendo event was officially rebranded as The Wonderful 101. Although that game is not confirmed for a November 18 release to match the Wii U itself, it is scheduled to hit shelves before the end of the year.

No word yet on when we can expect Bayonetta 2. It almost certainly won’t make the launch window, which technically closes in March, but it is scheduled for 2013.
