Nokia Lumia 1020 gets snapped with Pro Cam in focus

Think 920 but add 100

Nokia's July 11 event draws ever nearer, promising to bring the Nokia 1020 (previously known as the Eos) to our fingers, but as these things tend to go, we might have just been given our early preview.

Serial leaker @evleaks previously claimed that the new flagship would be named the Nokia Lumia 1020, and now the mysterious tipster has tweeted a picture to offer alongside that claim.

From what we can see, the phone has taken its design cues from the Lumia 920. However we can't see the rear of the handset, which is where the the real magic will be happening.

The 1020 is rumoured to be arriving with a not-so-modest 41-megapixel PureView camera and will succeed the Nokia 808 PureView.

Focus carefully

On closer inspection, you'll notice the Nokia Pro Cam tile on the screen, an app that's been rumoured to be on the handset.

The image shows the phone on American network AT&T and @evleaks captioned the picture simply, "Nokia Lumia 1020 for AT&T, 2013"

With the new trend of super-snapper phones beginning to take off, including the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, can Nokia offer the market a compelling early option? We should find out for sure at Nokia's event next week.

Microsoft revamps OneNote mobile app

Microsoft revamps OneNote mobile app

Microsoft has given its OneNote app a fresh lick of paint

Microsoft has redesigned the mobile version of its note taking app OneNote, saying it wants to give users a more consistent experience across multiple devices.

It has engineered the app to make notes appear the same across all clients and on different platforms, including Windows, Windows Phone, Android and iOS, in addition to introducing new formatting and customisation options.

Microsoft has also added support for notebooks stored on Office 365, SharePoint, and SkyDrive Pro. Additionally, OneNote also now allows groups of people to collaborate on notes in real-time in a similar way to Google's Apps for Business platform.

Widgets

The software giant has added widgets to the Android version that can be edited on the home screen, while the iPad version of the app has gained Microsoft's Office ribbon.

It has also made its OneNote apps for iOS and Android completely free, removing the limitation of 500 notes previously available to users before they had to pay.

Budget iPhone eyed in blue, joins four other possible pigments

Budget iPhone eyed in blue, joins four other possible pigments

Blues clues (credit: NowhereElse.fr)

We know you were just screaming, "But what about blue??" when leaked photos showing alleged green, yellow and red cheap iPhone models appeared earlier this week.

Calm down, as now comes word (or sight) that Apple may be planning to have a blue budget iPhone join the low-cost trio, as the latest snaps from a Chinese factory seem to indicate.

What appears to be a half-assembled iPhone blue shell has been photographed alongside the three previously leaked of colors and a white version, according to French site Nowhere Else.

With the pigments popping up left and right, we wouldn't be surprised if we soon see a fuchsia, burnt orange and taupe model soon.

More Blips

The colors making you dizzy? Take three blips and call us in the morning.

Galaxy S4: Samsung Has Shipped 20 Million Units

Galaxy S4

We have been hearing rumors about the slowed down sales of the Samsung Galaxy S4 for a while now, but it appears like the device is still going strong on the market. Samsung has reportedly shipped 20 million Galaxy S4 unites according to the company’s mobile boss JK Shin.

Samsung shipped 10 million units of the Galaxy S4 by late May. The company is said to have taken around two months for reaching the 20 million mark with their handset. This is certainly great news for the South Korean giant when considering that it took them 100 days to hit the same mark with the Galaxy S3.

Some analysts have predicted that the S4 shipments will reach 80 million units at the end of this year, far more than the 60 million of the S3. But we wonder how the sales of the S4 will be affected if the Galaxy S4 LTE-A is available in countries other than South Korea, where it is on sale now. And there are hotly anticipated upcoming devices, such as the Moto X and next-gen iDevices, which might affect the S4’s sales.

Motorola wants YOU to design the Moto X, touts device's homegrown cred

Motorola wants YOU to design the Moto X, touts device's homegrown cred

Be free!

Motorola has hinted buyers will be able to customise the design and hardware specs of the still mysterious Moto X handset in a new advert scheduled to appear in U.S. newspapers over the 4th of July holiday.

In a new ad, revealed by AdAge, the company promises the device will be "the first smartphone you can design yourself" while boasting that the handset will be assembled on home soil in the United States.

Within the full-page ad, the company teases Moto X is "coming soon" and that "users should have the freedom to design the things in life to be as unique as you are."

What Google-owned Moto means by 'design yourself' isn't exactly clear yet, but earlier this year Google advisor Guy Kawasaki did (sort of) suggest the device could be personalised like a Porsche sports car.

Phones are like shoes

In real world terms, that may mean users could choose colour options, build materials, extra memory, processing power and a wealth of other variables usually determined for them by the manufacturer.

In an interview with AdAge, Moto's Motorola's Vice president of Global Brand and Product Marketing Brian Wallace said it was about time those decisions were put back into the hands of the consumer.

Without revealing which elements would be customisable, Wallace said: "Smartphones are very different than other tech products a consumer owns.

"They're closer to shoes or a watch. You carry it with you everywhere you go. Everyone sees what phone you're carrying and they judge you on it. Yet, it's the one thing you carry that's the least customisable."

USA! USA! USA!

The ad, which will appear in the July 3 edition of the New York Times, USA Today, Wall Street Journal and Washington Post is nothing if not patriotic.

"Imagine what it'll be like when you have the world's best design, engineering and manufacturing talent here in the U.S.," the company purred.

"Some people said it couldn't be done. But we're not just any company. And nothing this exciting ever comes easily."

The ad is also the first time we've seen Moto's new Googley logo in any form of public communications.
