Sony has just announced three new Android smartphones at IFA 2012 – the flagship Xperia T, the slightly smaller Xperia V, and the budget Xperia J.
A new range of Android smartphones from Sony is coming soon but there is no word on release dates or pricing just yet. At IFA 2012 in Berlin, Sony unveiled the Xperia T, the Xperia V, and the Xperia J.
Sony Xperia T
The flagship of the bunch is definitely the Xperia T. It boasts a 4.6-inch HD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Naturally the Reality Display features Sony’s Bravia technology for crisp, detailed images. The processor is a 1.5GHz dual-core affair backed up by 1GB of RAM. It also has a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera which can record full HD 1080p video and an LED flash. It also sports an HD 720p front-facing camera.
It will ship with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream sandwich) but the update to Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) will follow shortly after launch. The device supports NFC and it packs a 1,850mAh battery. It will be available in black, silver, and white. It also has 16GB of onboard storage and a microSD card slot.
The focus is on media with that large screen and a range of Sony’s entertainment apps. There will also be a 60-day premium trial of Music Unlimited and early adopters will get 50GB of free cloud storage thanks to a deal with Box. The camera has a “snap to sleep” feature that allows it fire up in just over a second. The Xperia T is also PlayStation certified.
It will be known as the Xperia TX in some markets.
Sony Xperia V
The V is much like the T except that the display is smaller at 4.3 inches. It also has a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 13-megapixel camera, NFC support, and ships with Android 4.0 (ICS).
It is a tough smartphone with IP55/57+ certification which means it is dust and water resistant. It can survive the effects of immersion up to 1m for 30 minutes. It will be available in black, pink, or white.
Sony Xperia J
This is the budget release of the bunch. Intended to be “affordable,” it is sporting a 4-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. It has a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, 4GB of internal storage, and it will also ship with Android 4.0 (ICS). Apparently it will be available in black, gold, white, or pink.
