MetroPCS has announced the availability of a competitively priced 4G LTE smartphone, the ZTE Avid 4G, which runs Android 4.0 and can be purchased without being tied down to a contract.
MetroPCS has announced the availability of a new Android phone with 4G connectivity, named the Avid 4G. The device is produced by ZTE and is the third device from the manufacturer to be offered by the network, and it’s priced in-between the budget ZTE Score and MetroPCS’s other 4G ZTE phone, the Anthem.
The Avid 4G’s specification isn’t outstanding, but its price of $149 without a contract is excellent, so it’s worth your attention if you’re on the look out for a bargain 4G device. For your money you get a 4-inch touchscreen which has a 480 x 800 pixel resolution, and a 1.2GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM.
A mere 4GB of internal storage memory is offered, but this can be boosted by slotting a microSD card into the phone, increasing it by up to 32GB. A 5-megapixel camera sits on the rear of the phone, while there’s a video call lens above the screen too. It’s also equipped with GPS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 1730mAh battery which according to MetroPCS will provide 260 hours of standby, plus the ability to act as a 4G wireless hotspot.
So, for the price, the ZTE Avid 4G looks good, and it does have Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich as its operating system, so it’s almost up-to-date. Don’t expect Jelly Bean to arrive anytime soon though, as ZTE isn’t one to rush to get these updates out. The Avid 4G is available now for $149, and ready to connect to one of MetroPCS’s 4G plans, which will set you back between $40 and $70 per month.
