Electronic Arts and Maxis have announced plans to host a closed beta for the new SimCity reboot. The news was revealed on the official SimCity Twitter account earlier today and was accompanied by a link to a registration page.
Interested parties will first need an Origin account, if you don’t already have one. Furthermore, the beta is only open to PC users at this time – sorry, Mac fans. Of course, the game will be available on both platforms when it launches.
The beta action will take place starting January 25 and run through January 28, according to the registration page. You’ll need to get your details in before this coming Sunday for consideration, however, as beta space is extremely limited. The game’s website says participants will be chosen on a random basis.
The majority of what we know about the game thus far came nearly a year ago when EA announced the title at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. SimCity will be a PC-only title built around the new GlassBox game engine. It will include a number of new features like curved roads, new buildings and landscapes, dust clouds and even natural disasters.
SimCity will also feature a robust multiplayer mode with support for up to 16 players and the ability to save your progress in the cloud.
Fans can get their hands on the full game starting March 5, available in two different versions. The limited edition copy will sell for $59.99 while a digital deluxe edition with three extra cityscapes will run $79.99.
